In honor of Black History Month, Tonya Butler, Chair of the MB/M Department, will have the distinct pleasure of interviewing Mr. Jon Platt, Chairman, and CEO of Sony Music Publishing.
Mr. Platt is the highest-ranking Black executive in the music industry. His influence spans more than 25 years and includes working with giants such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Rihanna, Usher and countless others.
The annual James G. Zafris Distinguished Lecture Series for Music Business/ Management is Berklee's first endowed visiting lecture series, founded by the college's board of trustees in 1992 and named for James G. Zafris, founding member and longtime chair of the board. The Zafris lecturers have included General Counsel and EVP of Business & Legal Affairs for Universal Music Group worldwide Jeff Harleston, Destiny's Child manager Matthew Knowles; former CBS Records head Walter Yetnikoff; award-winning producer Arif Mardin; Bruce Lundvall, president and CEO of the Blue Note Label Group; Hilary Rosen, then president of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA); and renowned entertainment attorney Dina Lapolt.
